Depression Education is Suicide Prevention 

Course Description: This course is focused on identifying the impact depression education has on the whole student population and how that relates to suicide prevention. By exploring Tier 1-focused toolkits and preparedness, attendees will learn how to improve school-based mental health services by tailoring programmatic needs to fit their school’s unique culture, through engagement with families and staff training focused on teen empowerment. 

Learning Goals: 

  1.  Identify the impact depression education has on the whole student population and how it relates to suicide prevention;
  2. Describe how to improve school based mental health services by tailoring a program to best fit their school’s needs including family engagement, teen empowerment, and staff training;
  3. Learn how to access all free, ready to use resources and materials for educators, students, and families as well as 1:1 support from multidisciplinary professionals.

Speaker: 

Shantal Saldaña (she/her) is the manager of school outreach at Erika's Lighthouse. Shantal has a Masters in l/O Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She brings over 10 years of experience in working with families and community relationships, non-profits, and education.  She is passionate about giving youth, their families, and their support systems the tools and education they need to take charge of their mental health. Her goal is to spread awareness and make mental health a safe and common topic for conversation.
