"The Power Within: Harnessing Our Collective Strengths for Change" delves into the core of our profession, highlighting the unique strengths, skills, and perspectives that each member brings to the table.

In this empowering session, we will explore the incredible potential that lies within each school social worker to effect positive change in their schools and communities. "The Power Within: Harnessing Our Collective Strengths for Change" delves into the core of our profession, highlighting the unique strengths, skills, and perspectives that each member brings to the table. 

Participants will be inspired to recognize and embrace their individual and collective power, understanding how their contributions are vital in advocating for equity, inclusion, and social justice. Through a series of thought-provoking discussions, and real-world examples, we will uncover strategies to amplify our impact, collaborate more effectively, and lead transformative initiatives. 

This presentation is designed to invigorate school social workers, reigniting their passion and commitment to their roles. By harnessing our collective strengths, we will chart a path forward, creating a brighter, more inclusive future for our students, families, and communities. Join us as we unlock the power within and drive meaningful change together.

 

Speaker: Terriyln C. Rivers-Cannon, MSW, EdD, is a co-author, speaker, and transformative leader who inspires everyone she meets. Dr. Rivers-Cannon has devoted over 20 years to improving the lives of ALL school-aged populations. She has served in many leadership roles including past District and State Presidents for Georgia, SSWAA Endowment Board member, and Southern Regional Representative. As a history maker in the field of Social Work, Dr. Rivers-Cannon has received letters of acknowledgment, recognition, and Proclamations from Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Senator Tonya Anderson, and U.S. Representative Henry Hank” Johnson Jr. along with having April   5th designated as Dr. Terriyln Rivers-Cannon Day. Dr. RC has collaborated on several publications with the Georgia Department of Education and School Social Workers Association of America. She is the Founder and CEO of Soar with K.AT.I.E. (Karing Actions Towards Inspiring Eagles)” and hosts a nationally syndicated radio/talk show, Dare To Soar with Dr. RC.”

SSWAA’s 2023-2024 School Opening Townhall event, where school social workers will be reminded of the importance of the profession’s core competencies and the impactful, life-changing contributions made throughout the country. School social workers will be provided an understanding of why we’re an integral part of the term “whole child”, enabling social-emotional growth to be enhanced, mental health to be embraced, and academic excellence to be integrated in the macro, mezzo, and micro-levels of practice.
